The Broadus football team and coaching staff knew going into Homecoming week they would have their work cut out for them if they were going to have a chance against #3 state ranked Joliet, and as the game began on a stormy Friday evening with lightning popping in the distance and rain spitting down from the heavens, Broadus kept that hope alive. Joliet had other plans, quickly scoring against Broadus as the defensive ends failed to seal the edge and allowed the Joliet runners to drive down the...
The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team continued their season of excellent play on Saturday, as they hosted Terry for Homecoming. "The girls came out and played well," Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer commented on the match. "I'm proud of the team; they didn't play down, they played at the level we need to be playing." Lauryn Billing went 25 for 25 on serving with 8 aces in the win, as well as contributing 12 sets, or half of the Lady Hawks total. Zeason Schaffer had 9 kills in the match. Archer...
By PR Extension Office The primary cause of dying yucca plants has recently been detected, according to MSU Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. “For a few years, I have noticed dying yucca plants throughout rangeland and have received reports from others throughout the county of noticing the same,” said Rumph. Last week, a local resident who was digging up dead yucca plants in the yard discovered a black beetle on the plants and a larva in the roots. Further investigation led to the conclusive identification of the “yucca weevil (Scypho...
The Broadus Cross Country team ran in two races over the last two weeks, in Red Lodge and last week in Broadus. Red Lodge featured a mostly flat course, in contrast to the steep hill in Hardin which Broadus runners faced earlier this year, and also in contrast to the deceptively long hills at the race in Broadus. In Red Lodge, Rebekah Rasmussen ran a personal best 26:03 to place 35th overall, and Rheanna Schroeder ran a 28:02 to place 43rd. Both Rebekah and Rheanna raced in the varsity. In the...
The Broadus School Board Trustees met for their regular monthly meeting on September 19th, with Shasta Madsen and Rob Jones absent from the meeting, all other members in attendance. Student Council President Rheanna Schroeder gave the Student Council Report, commenting on highlights from Homecoming. Next up was attendance and...

April: the month of 4-H Demonstration Day. Demonstration Day is scary because a whole roomful of people are watching you. Demonstration Day is good because it forces us to work on our projects. I like to watch other kids' demonstrations. The time my club members demonstrated how to make salad and trail mix and then shared their food was my favorite. Thanks to them we make both of those at home now. Mrs. Knobloch did a demonstration for us at the beginning of our April meeting. It was about testing to see if the dirt is good or not. She put...
By PR Extension Office There have been reports of small, light-colored moths showing up by the thousands in people's lawns. These moths have been identified as sod webworms, which are now emerging throughout the area. Although these mild turf pests are somewhat common during the summer, the number of moth sightings and population densities are typically low. "We normally see these moths earlier in the summer," commented Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. "I think we are seeing a second or...
By Broadus Schools Superintendent Jim Hansen 9-12-22 Each Fall I welcome staff back to school and speak on various topics. This year I discussed the word “Just.” The word is often used to minimize the importance of something or someone. We have all heard comments stating they are “Just” a teacher, custodian, stock boy, stay-at-home parent, farmer, or carpenter. Someone once informed me that whenever someone states you “Just” have to do something, it is usually more difficult than their perceptions. Unfortunately, one does not need look far to...

Creative students used items like a bra or a little sister carried on the back to complete their ensemble. Meanwhile, in a...
