  • Moorhead Bridge closes to all traffic

    Last week, state engineers informed the county that the Moorhead Bridge was unsafe for travel. On Thursday, the county made the decision that the bridge would be closed to all traffic, until further notice. The Moorhead Bridge spans the Powder River upstream of Broadus near the Wyoming state line, and provides a vital passage for ranchers to access their cattle and land on both sides of the river. Their first meet was in Huntley where Rachel Rasmussen and Samantha Perry were the only two runners from Broadus. It was a hot day in Huntley and the course was deceiving because although it was flat, there was a long straight stretch for about a mile and a half where no fans could cheer or watch.     The Lady Hawk Volleyball team picked up their first win of the season, last Tuesday against Lame Deer. “Lame Deer was better than I had anticipated, but we were still able to pull of the win”, Broadus Coach Gordon Archer said of the match. “They served and set well, but we also played well and confidently won.” Broadus dominated the Lady Morning Stars in the first game, winning handily 25-14.     By Tom Minow The Broadus Sports Boosters will be sponsoring a homecoming tailgate dinner this Sat. the 21st at 11:00 a.m. right after the parade. The location is still being determined but will be outside weather permitting or possibly moved indoors at the elementary school. The boosters will be supplying the meat and buns.   • Hawks come close to a win at Plentywood

    The Broadus Hawk football team made the long drive to Plentywood last Friday, leaving at noon and not returning to Broadus until around 4 AM. The long drive gave the team and Coach Ross Randall plenty of time to contemplate their strategy, and Broadus was able to use that strategy to some effect against Plentywood, as Broadus was able to pull ahead early and keep the lead through much of the game.     The Broadus School board met Monday evening for their monthly meeting. The meeting was relatively brief, with a light agenda. The board also had a training session scheduled that evening, which is a yearly event where board members are educated about various issues important to their positions.     On the evening of September 12, 2019 Lawrence passed away at his ranch, in the house, because of a heart condition. Lawrence was 74 years old. Lawrence was born in Broadus, Montana on March 20, 1945. He was the second son of Catherine Mary Teresa Trucano and John Charles Giacometto. Lawrence grew up on the family ranch as a child attending local schools on Bell Creek and Wright Creek and he went to high school in Broadus. She was adopted as an infant by Lester and Estella (Thrailkill) Kellogg. She spent her early years in Idaho and Montana as her dad moved around often for work.
