In Broadus, the thermometer didn't break the triple digit mark during the month, in fact we have yet to see a 100-degree day in 2019. The latest in the year a triple digit temperature was recorded in Broadus was on September 14th. This 100 degree high record occurred in 1948.   • Commissioners finalize County Budget

    The Powder River County Commissioners finalized the 2019-20 county budget on Tuesday morning. One highlight of this year’s budget is there will be no increase in taxes for local taxpayers. Some other highlights include: approximately $650,000 has been set aside this year for the Road Department, which will be used to hire contractors to stockpile gravel, and for rebuilding of older county roads, as well as repaving the cemetery road and nursing home parking lot.     The Broadus Varsity Girls Volleyball season started out early on Saturday. Early as in 4:30 AM, to be precise, as the team loaded the buses in the wee hours of the morning for the long trip to the Fairview Tournament. The tournament featured two game pool play, with the winner in total points determining advancement. The young Broadus team – consisting of eight freshmen, one sophomore, one junior, two seniors, and eight 8th graders, pulled into Fairview with a tough challenge ahead.     Eva Marie Farrar, 77, of Broadus, an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandma, sister, and friend passed away on the morning of Tuesday, August 27, 2019. She was always known as Marie.     State and local public health officials are reporting the season’s first human West Nile Virus (WNV) cases in Montana. The cases, reported in Custer and Lewis and Clark counties, both occurred in individuals over the age of 60, who are often at greater risk for severe disease. Both required hospitalization and no further information is available at this time.
