  • Plane Crash Hospitalizes Two

    A plane crash in the Southeastern Custer County area hospitalized two people earlier this month. A preliminary FAA report indicated that around 6:30 PM on August 10th a Piper J3 Cub crashed under unknown circumstances, approximately 22 miles East/SE of Miles City. Local ranchers, along with Custer County and Miles City emergency personnel responded to the crash, piloted by Shane Balsam.     During the hot weather last week, the Hawk football team used the county swimming pool to their advantage, now that the pool is staying open after the beginning of school. The team conducted a conditioning workout in the pool, with half the team doing water aerobics while the other half treaded water in the 9 foot end, and then switching out, followed by a team sprint from one end of the pool and back, and then a free swim.     The Broadus VFD, along with assets from Custer County and Federal resources responded to the 831.6 acre Upper Mizpah Fire on August 18th. The fire was in Custer County, approximately 27 miles north of Broadus, and was contained and controlled by the 19th, Saturday. County and Federal resources also responded to the 2 acre Bay Horse Fire, located approximately 29 miles south of Broadus, on Monday.
