The Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club is busy finalizing plans for our 32nd Quilt Show to be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018. The show will again be held at the Broadus Community Center from 10 AM to 4 PM. Area ranchers are busy hauling bales from field to haystacks as a very fine season indeed is coming to a close. Haying was delayed a couple of weeks after a wonderful wet growing season came to pass, and June rains kept many folks from their fields. But that too may have been a good thing, as wheat grass and sweet clover were slow to mature. This growing season was a savior to many, after two years of getting little to no hay. Time has passed quickly and we are now a month into a new budget year. On August 2nd we will be having an Open House to thank those who have donated, volunteered or just ‘been there’ for our Senior Center. We will be serving coffee, iced tea, and fresh baked cookies for refreshments. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 PM. Lucille Randall, age 97, passed away July 24, 2018, at the Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana. She was born March 9, 1921, to Swiss immigrant parents, Anna and Christian Gantenbein, in Boring, Oregon. She was the fourth of five children, growing up on the family's dairy farm on Kelso Road. Lucille's father died of tuberculosis when she was 14 months old, but her mother was able to keep the family farm with the advice and support of her brothers-in-law. Evelyn Joyce (Fadhl) Broadus lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 26, 2018. Our Mom was born December 29, 1943 to George and Vera (Wood) Fadhl at the home of her Aunt Barbara Schulenberg in Forsyth, Montana. In elementary school, knowing that her Aunt worked at a bar, Mom horrified her own mother by telling everyone that she was born in the back room of the Kokomo Club. Tara Kay McCullough, age 55 of Ashland, MT passed away on the morning of July 28, 2018. Tara was born in Sheridan, Montana, August 25, 1962. She went home with her parents Harold and Mary Ann Irion McCullough to live on the Goodspeed/Beam homestead on Otter Creek. In 1964, the family moved to Ashland. July 16, 2018 All commissioners were present for a regular meeting, and began the day reading current mail, reading and approving minutes and reviewing any other necessary information regarding transfer of assets and employee forms. A few important dates remain for hunters looking for license for this upcoming hunting season: On Aug. 6, hunters can buy over-the-counter and surplus B licenses (antlerless) for deer and elk. On Aug. 9, general antelope and antelope B drawing results will be available. On Aug. 13, surplus general antelope, antelope B and antelope archery 900-20 licenses go on sale.
