Powder River County announced their first positive COVID case on Thursday. A Powder River Community member presented to the Medical clinic with symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Subsequent testing revealed a confirmed positive. Powder River Public Health is in the process of contact tracing and will notify anyone identified as being a contact. The County Compensation Board met earlier this week to set the salary for the elected officials for the coming budget year. The board consists of all three county commissioners (Donna Giacometto, Lee Randall, and Rod Schaffer), as well as County Attorney Jeff Noble, three elected officials (Molly Lloyd, Cynde Jo Gatlin, and Sheriff Drane), and two taxpayers (Pete Wenzel and Julie Collins). On July 8, 2020, the Mizpah Masters 4-H club held their 5th meeting. Six out of the seven members were present. The meeting was held the Aye's house. The club discussed the upcoming fair. Lea Aye, Justin Aye, and Madisyn Kramme reported on the market hog and lamb weigh in that was held in June. Roadside cleanup will be completed by the club in August or September. They will set up on the East side of the Powder River Historical Museum at 10 AM and close at 6 PM. As we reported last week, the PR County Commissioners discussed and planned a vote on changing their salary from the current full-time pay of around $43,000 a year and dropping to ¾ time pay. The vote came after our publication was sent out to the printer, on Tuesday afternoon July 14th.
