    The county compensation board met Monday at the courthouse, for a meeting to discuss the salaries of elected county officials. Present at the Board were the three County Commissioners, Darold Zimmer, Donna Giacometto, and Rod Schaffer, as well as County Attorney Jeff Noble, County Treasurer Pat Phillippi, Sheriff Allen Drane, County Clerk & Recorder Carole Richards, and the members of the Compensation Board representing the community, Mike Riley and Kathy Heidel.   • Golfers enjoy Farm in the Dell Scramble for Fun

    Fifty duffers got together to support a good cause and to have good fun at the Powder River Farm in the Dell 6th annual Golf Scramble this past Saturday. It was obvious that there was a whole lot of fun, even if there wasn't a whole lot of golf aptitude. There were 31 different hole sponsors whose placards decorated the course.     Ardith Jean Rost (Zimmer), of Sonnette, MT, found peace at St Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT on July 5, 2018 at the age of 77. Born September 24, 1940 to Jerome and Rose Zimmer (Kosterman) in Catawba, WI , Ardith was the eldest of 8 children. She grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI and was a 1958 graduate of Menomonee Falls High School. After graduation, Ardith became employed at Briggs and Stratten, and took up residence in Milwaukee, WI.     We just concluded our Powder River Minors Little League with a tournament Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Bill Bahny Cubs won the tournament beating Mills Auction Service 18-9, and beating Chaznline Red Sox 16-5. Mills Auction took second places losing to Bill Bahny and squeaking past Chaznline 17-16.   • Freedom Run Winners Announced

    Thirty-six people, two babies in strollers, two dogs and one bicyclist ran or walked the Freedom Run held in Broadus on a cool 4th of July morning. The 27th annual event was won by Joan Jilka. Jilka won the 5-mile race with a time of 42:32, and received an award sponsored by Powder River Vet Clinic. Tom Herzog was second overall with a 43:32 minute run.   • Several small fires start over the weekend

    Broadus VFD firefighters responded to several fires over the weekend, most of which were started by lightning from storms on Friday night. On Saturday, a 4.5 acre fire was doused on Butte Creek, in the southern end of Powder River County, on Russ Bryant’s property. Another fire, just across the Baking Powder Divide on Ernest Creek, was put out by responding BLM resources. The fire burned 0.5 acres.     The Powder River County Sheriff’s Department had a fairly uneventful 4th of July week, according to Sheriff Allen Drane, Jr. Deputy Brenden Stevenson arrested an individual on a felony warrant out of Yellowstone County during a traffic stop, a Delio Mance. Mance was wanted for a felony charge of distribution of dangerous drugs. Yellowstone County came down and extradited him back to Billings. Mance is apparently a rap artist, going by the name “G-money”, with videos of his exploits on Facebook…complete with wads of cash being proudly display...

    Descendants of Thomas and Georgie Hopkins Wetherelt, Powder River County pioneers, held a reunion June 22, 23, 24 at the Fairgrounds in Forsyth, Montana. Thomas and Georgie had 10 children who lived to adulthood, most of whom lived in and around Broadus. They gave us 38 first cousins. Twenty-one are still living; 18 attended the Forsyth reunion. It is our hope that children in the Broadus area will be able to attend the Faith Bible Church VBS July 16-20 and make memories of their own.
