    As of Tuesday, June 30th, fire restrictions (to include any fireworks bans) had not been implemented in Powder River County. Speaking to the County Commissioners on Monday, we learned they had discussed fire restrictions with the County Fire Marshal last week, but wanted to wait and see about the rainy weather, as well as the potential for a multi-county fire restriction which may come out at some point.   • Dedication Ceremony for PR Memorial Cemetery will take place August 1

    By Jaeger Held The dedication ceremony for the Powder River Memorial Cemetery is set for Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 2 p.m. The memorial includes marble headstones for fifteen U.S. soldiers who died along the Powder River in present-day Montana during the Powder River Expedition of 1865 and were buried in unmarked graves. The ceremony will be conducted by the Montana camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War with Broadus Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1595 serving as honor guard.     The Broadus High Class of 2020 underwent a challenging last year of school. The COVID Crisis ended their year two months early. On Saturday, the class underwent one last challenge: graduation. Graduation was held on the high school football field, in order to help with social distancing protocols.     Thursday, July 5, 1990 Toxic odor source unsolved: town office moved again As of press time Tuesday, no word had yet been received concerning air samples sent into Helena from the Broadus Town Office. Air samples had been taken last Wednesday, and were sent to Bill Hooper of the Montana Bureau of Occupation Health. The samples are to be tested for a number of possible toxic contaminants.     Courtesy PR Extension Office The lack of moisture throughout the majority of Powder River County has resulted in early harvest of small grains for forage, according to Extension Agent Mary Rumph. “Many producers are trying to make hay before the crop either burns up or is eaten up by grasshoppers,” commented Rumph.     Courtesy PR Extension Office Blister beetle infestations are being reported throughout the county, according to Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. “It is not surprising to see a large number this year,” said Rumph. “Blister beetles feed on grasshopper eggs, which is helpful, however, they also eat desirable vegetation. In addition, the beetle produces a toxin called cantharidin, a blister-causing substance,” added Rumph.     Sharon Jeane Francis Dinstel left us too soon. She passed away on June 19, 2020. Sharon was born November 21st, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri. She lived in Florissant, Missouri until she left for college and graduated from Truman State with her master's degree in Speech Pathology with a minor in Dance. Sharon's career and her love for skiing brought her to Billings, Montana. While there she met the love of her life and married Delbert Dinstel on September 23rd, 1978.
