So far this spring, two separate incidents have resulted in the killing of black bears by local authorities. The first incident occurred on 15 Mile Creek in Western PR County, when a bear was shot by FWP wardens after it killed a 4-H pig. The second incident occurred over Memorial Day, when a bear was found at Craft's, just west of Broadus near the golf course. Mary Ann McCullough passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana, where she had resided for the last seven months. June 13, 1924 Barn at N Barn Ranch Burns; Fire of Incendiary Origin Fire of incendiary origin destroyed the barn at the N Barn ranch between 4:30 and 5 o’clock last Friday afternoon. The loss of the barn and its contents inflicted a loss between $3,000 and $4,000 on the owner, J. Link Wilson. That barn was a frame structure that would hold thirty-two head of horses through it was not occupied by them at the time of the fire. Lame Deer, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing that summer road work on a 12-mile portion of US Highway 212 (US 212) east of Lame Deer is scheduled to commence in June. The project begins just east of the junction with Montana Highway 39 (MT 39) at the roundabout in Lame Deer and extends east. The contractor selected for work on this project is Prince, Inc. The event features Charlene Porsild from the Foundation for Montana History, who will details the steps needed to secure funding to help preserve the history of Powder River County. The Broadus Little Levi Rodeo takes place this weekend, headlining a host of rodeo related events. Action begins with Team Roping fundraiser on Saturday, June 15th. Enter at 9 AM, rope at 10. The full set of results from the June 4th primary are now out. Voter turnout statewide was just over 41%, and 60% in Powder River County. Statewide, absentee voters returned 60.26% of ballots, with 67.43% of PR County absentee voters returning ballots. In the presidential race, Donald Trump received 574 votes in Powder River County, while Joe Biden received 55. The 5-mile begins at 7:00 a.m.; the 3-mile begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 1-mile run, walk or stroll begins at 8:00 a.m. All races start on the west side of Cottonwood Park in Broadus.
