  • Cow Elk Extricated From Airport

    Jun 9, 2022

Reports of two cow elk at the active county airport filtered into our office on Monday morning. County Maintenance Supervisor Marty Drane told us that the elk likely found their way into the fenced enclosure through a gate which didn’t latch properly and may have blown open in the wind. Reports indicate the mission to move the elk out of the airport turned into a bit of a rodeo, as elk apparently don’t herd like cattle. Just as the maintenance personnel were slowly pushing the elk along the fence towards an open gate, someone stopped on the...

  • May Showers Brought June Flowers

    Jun 9, 2022

Though the saying is off by a month from the usual April showers/May flowers, the cool conditions of April and late frost in May (where the mercury dipped to 27 on May 22nd in Broadus) set back plant growth as well as the validity of the saying in its orginal form. In the ensuing weeks the growth has come on quickly. By the last week of May and into early June, flowers were in full bloom, lawns in need of regular cutting, and fields well on their way to producing a bumper crop, aided by regular...
