  • Swimming Pool to open Sunday

    The county swimming pool is set to open this Sunday, June 6th, according to Pool Manager Libby Nisley. This year, the pool will open from 7 AM to 10 AM for adult swim and water aerobics, followed by regular swimming sessions from 11 AM until 8 PM, interspersed with half hour breaks at 2 PM and 5:30 PM.   • Local law enforcement engages in high speed pursuit

    A high speed pursuit along Hwy 212 ended in one man being tazed and pepper sprayed, last Friday night. The pursuit began around 10 PM, after Powder River County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to pull over Jacob Dreyer of Portland, Oregon, for a suspended driver’s license. Dreyer had been pulled over earlier in the day in Broadus, when his suspended license was discovered, and had planned to stay at a motel until someone could drive his vehicle, according to Sheriff Allen Drane, Jr. Instead, Dreyer left town after dark, and was subsequently spo...

    Ten members of the Broadus Track Team competed at the State Meet, May 28th and 29th in Missoula. Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter wrote the following article about the team's performance at the State Meet. Zeason Schaffer, freshman girl, qualified in four events for State track, and won a 6th place medal in the Long Jump on her first jump in trials at 15'9¾".     The Broadus Kindergarten Class finished their first year of school last week. During the ceremony, each student received a diploma and gifts, and each student presented their family with a gift they had made during the year.     By PR Extension Office This year there is a double threat for alfalfa growers, according to Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. In addition to alfalfa weevil, which are a chronic problem for many producers, is the threat of grasshoppers.     John Roberts Mobley, 85, died peacefully at home the afternoon of May 27, 2021 with daughter Meg and wife Dee nearby. Having survived both lung cancer and vocal cord cancer, he was unable to withstand pancreatic cancer.     By PR Extension Office A nuisance weed, Catchweed (Boraginaceae), has recently been cussed and discussed in the last few weeks, according to Extension Agent Mary Rumph. “Reports are that the catchweed is about 4” tall,” said Rumph. “It is often unnoticed until it becomes tall enough to trip you!
