    Broadus athletes returned home from the State Track Meet last week in Laurel with 8 medals, with four medals in individual events and four from the 4x400 boys relay. Thomas Oylear led the final two laps of the 3200, his strongest event, before Manhattan Christian's Oren Arthun had enough steam to pass Oylear at the finish.     Monday, May 15, 2023 Commissioner John Olson called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioner’s office, Powder River County Courthouse. Commissioners Lori Fortner was present and Lee Randall was absent. Commissioners reviewed and approved the consent agenda. The minutes of the May 8, 2023, commissioner proceedings were read, approved, and ordered published.   • Retirement Party Held For Two Broadus Teachers

    Two Broadus teachers retired from teaching at the end of the school year, last week. During a going away party held at the Elementary, retiring teachers Laura Lambert and Jerry Coulter heard kind words and fond memories from their fellow teachers, while relating a few stories of their own as the group dined on sunflower themed cupcakes (which held special meaning, as Laura's house is decorated with sunflowers) as well as a variety of other snacks. I am back at the manager position for the third year in a row, this time joined by Assistant Manager Donovan Sturtz who has 5 years of lifeguarding experience under his belt.   • Memorial Day Ceremony Held

    Local Veteran Peter A. Hanks was honored at the Memorial Day Ceremony in Broadus. Pete was born in Bay City, MI, and eventually settled south of Broadus near Graham on a homestead with his parents. Peter was killed in action in WW1, and buried in France. Peter's mother, Ida, later took a trip to France with the Gold Star Mothers, and brought back a receptacle of soil from his grave.     The Powder River Historical Museum will open Monday, June 5th. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the museum will be open through the summer.
