    Nineteen High School Seniors entered the High School on Saturday afternoon, to emerge sometime later as fully fledged adult human high school graduates.   • Fifth Graders conduct "Unwax Museum"

    The Broadus 5th Grade, led by teacher Jennifer Grothe, conducted their "Unwax Museum", last Thursday at the High School Auditorium. Each student spent weeks researching the history of a famous person, then during the Museum portrayed that person, with the motivation of a donation from viewers. The Unwax Museum serves as a way for students to learn about research and history, while offering a fun outlet in the process.     "The competition and course were tough," Broadus High School Golf Coach Chad Gatlin commented on the State Golf tournament, held last week at Double Arrow Golf Course in Seeley Lake. The two rounds of golf were played on subsequent days on a course which featured a lot of water and trees – obstacles Eastern Montana golfers were not quite as familiar with as their Western Montana competitors.     A very late spring storm blanketed the area in snow, on Saturday. Close to an inch of precipitation was received on Saturday, and more throughout this week.   • Broadus Track Team excels at Divisional Tournament

    The Broadus Track team traveled to Laurel last week for the Southern C Divisional Tournament. The entire team had qualified in Baker the week prior, and were ready to face all comers in Laurel. "The team performed really well. They stepped up to the plate at the right time, and just did great at Laurel," Broadus Head Track Coach Jerry Coulter commented on their performance.     Albuquerque, N.M. – 2017 World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg) brought the packed DreamStyle Arena in Albuquerque to its feet as he recorded a monster 91.25-point ride aboard Bad Decisions (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) during the 15/15 Bucking Battle at the Ty Murray Invitational, presented by Isleta Resort and Casino. Lockwood was one of only three cowboys to make the 8 in the special round of competition.     Mary Yvonne ("Y-vonne") Lancaster passed away in the early morning on Monday, May 13, 2019, after fighting lung cancer first diagnosed in July of 2016. Mary was born December 26, 1935, in Broadus, Montana. She was the fourth child of Walter Wesley and Vanna Lavina Letricia (Boner) Embrey. Her birth is especially notable because Walter, without vehicle transportation at the time, walked the 17 miles from the family homestead to Broadus to see Vanna and the new baby girl. Due to the weather the event was moved to Dennis and Billie Kay and Ryle and Billie Harms indoor arena. The first go of the cutting ended with Harley Meged in 4th.     The Elementary Spring Concert was held on May 14th. The western themed affair was kicked off with the 5th grade band playing March Uno by Gerald Day and Sawmill Creek by Bruce Pearson.     Seventeen area residents convened in Broadus recently to learn colored pencil techniques from Upton, Wyoming's Eileen Nistler. Eileen is a nationally and internationally acclaimed colored pencil artist who divides her time ranching, creating art and teaching art workshops. The students ranged from 6th grade to 90+ and had various levels of experience working with colored pencils.
