A cold late winter gave rise to a cool, dry early spring, as April showers failed to materialize across much of Powder River County. Child Find will conduct developmental screening for children ages 0-5yrs, and will take place Thursday, May 18th, 9-4 at the Community Center in Broadus. The students are assessed in the areas of motor skills, concepts (academic readiness), and language. The motor skills are administered by a Physical Therapist (large motor skills) and an Occupational Therapist (small motor skills). The concepts areas will be administered by teachers. Nationals was a huge event this year, boasting 6,503 attendees from 23 states. There were 320 high school aged students attending from Montana. Kyle Giacometto was apprehended on April 11th following a probation search of his property, located at 201 North Park in Broadus. Authorities found a rifle, crossbow, and compound bows at the scene, in violation of the orders of Giacometto’s parole. The parole stemmed from a felony burglary conviction from 2014. Despite multiple members of the team absent from meets for the spring concert, BPA Nationals, and personal reasons such as a funeral, the Broadus track team soldiered on to a team win at the small meet in Baker last week, and placed well at the Harlo/Park City meet in Laurel. At the Baker meet, the Hawk boys won the meet, beating larger teams such as Baker and Bowman, ND. The Lady Hawks placed third overall. Broadus High golfers competed at Sidney and Harlowton in varsity action last week. Broadus High School Head Golf Coach Chad Gatlin told us the Sidney Meet was a bit of a preview of Divisionals, as many of the same teams Broadus would play this coming weekend in Laurel at Divisionals also played in Sidney. The event raised a considerable amount of money to the tune of $14,300 in income, through the raffle of dessert dishes and a variety of guns.
