  • School Board Approves Major Infrastructure Projects

    Broadus residents should expect to see a number of contractor outfits around town in the coming months, as construction work will be underway at the school over the summer. On April 24th, the PR County School Board Trustees held a meeting to discuss and approve these major infrastructure projects that are in the works at the school. Earlier in the school year the Elementary sewer system was found to be in severe disrepair and in need of replacement.   • Developmental Screening To Be Held May 16th

    By Debbie Stieg Child Find will conduct developmental screening for children ages 0-5yrs, and will take place Thursday, May 16th, 9-3:30 at the Community Center in Broadus. The screening is free of charge. Once a year, children aged 0-5 within the areas of Powder River County and Southern Carter County, including schools in Hawks Home, Hammond, and Alzada, can be screened.     May 2, 1924 Franklin and Krumps Building Hydro-Glider George Franklin and Part Krumps at their workshop have in the course of construction a hydro-glider that will be launched by them on Powder River when completed, probably within the next few days. It is a boat of new and ingenious design, something that has never been seen in this vicinity. The power is supplied by a propeller at the rear, operated by a small gasoline engine.     Shane Dunning, author of the Red Shale Reflections historical column for the Examiner, was recently awarded for his work in Montana: The Magazine of Western History. The Western Heritage Awards are an annual event honoring significant contributions to western heritage, and are put on by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.     Hawk track stars had a successful week of meets, beginning with a journey to the center of the nation on Tuesday the 23rd. The Belle Fourche meet featured teams from around the Northern Black Hills and Wyoming, along with a smattering of teams from the Western SD Plains, along with Broadus.   • Broadus Golfers Continue To Top Tournaments

    The Broadus golf team has been incredibly busy, golfing in four tournaments over the course of a week as their short spring season nears its end. Despite the jam-packed schedule, the team continues to place at the top of the pile, winning several meets. Broadus competed in the Fairview Tournament in Sidney on Tuesday, April 23rd. The boys competed amongst a field of 46 golfers and 8 teams, with the Broadus boys golfing a 370 for 3rd place as a team.
