The Lady Hawk JV Girls team finished the season with a 1-10 overall record, beating St. Labre in their meeting. The team consisted of 1 sophomore, 3 freshmen, and 3 8th graders, and Ciara McDowell played a few games when some girls were out sick or injured. By Karen Capp The Broadus 7th grade boys basketball team, AKA the "Airballers" lost their first game to a tough Miles City team, on Saturday morning at the Cowtown Classic in Miles City. We worked very hard in the first half, giving them a run for their money. Brock Gali was 60% from the free-throw line, but in total we had 7 for 27 Free throws. Longtime local resident Levi Mitchell recently donned the badge as a Powder River County Sheriff's Deputy. We sat down with Mitchell to discuss the life and times of the county's newest deputy. Levi graduated from PRCDHS in 2000, as the oldest son of Floyd Mitchell and Barb Mitchell. Levi went on to work as a lookout and firefighter for the BLM at Fort Howes and Bridger. The Broadus Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the afternoon of Sunday, March 19th. The blaze, which consumed and eventually resulted in the total loss of a home and garage, was located at the Fruit Ranch, on Pilgrim Creek Road, northeast of Broadus. Broadus VFD Fire Chief Raymond Ragsdale told us that the fire’s cause was unknown, and no injuries or loss of life came from the fire. The county's physical therapy department, located at the north end of Powder River Manor's north wing, has a newly updated gym, and is currently accepting members from the public at large. The gym features newly updated workout equipment including a rack setup where members may perform a variety of exercises – everything from back squats to pull-ups to lat pulldowns. Following a long winter which saw the ice on Powder River remain stubbornly frozen in place for around a month longer than usual, the ice went out earlier this week. In the picture at left, Tom Riggs stands near an ice jam on his ranch south of Broadus, on Monday afternoon. The "Broadus Lady Hawks" 7th grade girls team won second in their division at the Cowtown Classic Basketball Tournament over the weekend.
