  • Hawks compete at State Tournament

    Out of 82 Class C Boys Basketball teams in Montana, last week Broadus was able to stand proud amongst the "Elite 8" of State caliber teams. Over the season, these teams had battled their way through the 75 other Class C teams from across the state that finished their seasons previous to State, winning hard battles in home gyms from the mountains to the plains, and in front of crowds at District and Divisional Tournaments. The project counties are Rosebud, Treasure, Custer, Powder River and Big Horn counties including the Northern Cheyenne Reservation and the Crow Reservation.     By Alex Edwards On Tuesday, March 9th, the Broadus FFA chapter held a meeting to discuss plans for the upcoming State Contest being held in Billings on April 7th. Among the teams going to state are Parliamentary Procedure, Agronomy, and Sales. Members were also selected for a committee, which will pick winners for scholarships and the local proficiency awards.     On the evening of March 7th, 2021, John passed away at the age of 53 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings as a result of a heart attack from two days prior. He passed in the loving embrace of his daughter and eldest son, and in the heart of his youngest son. John was born on January 7th, 1968, in Miles City, MT to Thomas and Johnnie Williams and became the "baby boy" of their 5 children.     Courtesy of the Broadus Wrestling Club Broadus Wrestling Club held its 2nd Annual March Mixer with Colstrip and Miles City Wrestling Clubs attending, last Thursday. Broadus was represented by 22 Hawk wrestlers, led by their head coach Garrett Goggin. The Hawk wrestlers were able to put all of their practice to the test with a large crowd attending to cheer them on.     Courtesy MT FWP As part of the multi-year Targeted Elk Brucellosis Surveillance Project, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks staff conducted elk capture operations in the Ashland area southwest of Broadus. All elk tested negative for brucellosis. In the Ashland area, 100 female elk were captured with the aid of a helicopter in Hunting District 704 south of Highway 212 and between the Powder River and Hanging Woman Creek.
