The 3rd Annual Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament will return this year, the weekend of March 22-24th. The tournament will be held at the PRCDHS gym in Broadus, and is open to men and women who are out of high school. Players may enter as a team or as an individual, where they will be placed onto a team. Cost to play in the tournament is $50 per player, the funds from which will be awarded to two graduating Broadus Seniors, through the Amanda Gaskill Scholarship. Thirty-four teams entered the Steps for Charity Challenge. That’s 136 people who plan to increase their physical activity in February and March. It’s a win, win situation for individuals, businesses and local charities. Individuals walk more and three local charities will split the registration fees. Though last weekend's divisional wrestling meet in Forsyth was the first major tournament for 7 of the 10 Broadus Hawk wrestlers, the group performed well, according to Head Wrestling Coach Frankie Schoonover. The Broadus 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes competed in a Spelling Bee, last week at the Courthouse. The students were arranged in the jury booth of the courtroom, where they were tested on their spelling knowledge by proctor Barb Mitchell. Meanwhile, judges Julie Long, Lori Fortner, and Pat Hanlan provided assistance on correct spelling, while a room full of fellow students and parents watched the action. I was able to meet many senators, go behind the scenes, and serve the senators during my time there. BILLINGS – A rancher legally harvested a wolf on his property 40 miles east of Billings last Tuesday. The rancher, who held a Montana wolf hunting license, said he harvested the wolf after it chased some of his cattle away from a coulee where he was feeding them, north of the Yellowstone River. The wolf was a young male and weighed about 100 pounds. The rancher said he did not see other wolves and did not believe the animal killed or injured any of his cattle. Surrounded by her daughters, Audrey J. Flanigan was lifted to heaven to dance with her husband, Junior, on February 2, 2019. Audrey was born on October 28, 1931, to Wesley and Barbara McLean.
