    By Jim Kolka Over the past week the Broadus AAU Wrestlers have been busy! On January 22nd, 21 young wrestlers ventured to Forsyth for the Forsyth Invitational. Of the 21 wrestlers, 19 won or placed in their brackets.   • Broadus Chills Out During Power Outage

    A failed transformer at a Northwestern Energy substation resulted in a power outage across much of Southeastern Montana on Monday, including TRECO customers in and around Powder River County supplied by the Colstrip line. The power went out around 8:30 AM, with temperatures in Broadus around -8.   • Local Wordsmiths Strut Their Skills At Spelling Bee

    On Thursday, January 26th, the Powder River County Spelling Bee took place at the High School Auditorium. Groups of four to five eager spellers from each grade 4th through 8th competed in the event, first in a round against their classmates, then with the winner from each class going on to compete in the finals against the winners from the other classes.     BOZEMAN — Montana State University has announced its undergraduate honor rolls for fall semester 2022. There are two MSU honor roll lists: the President's List and the Dean's List. To be eligible for the lists, students must be enrolled in at least 12 college-level credits. This honor roll list was current as of Jan. 17 and includes all registration corrections or grade changes processed to that date.     On January 22, 2023, the Liscomb Mountain 4-H club met for their fourth meeting of the 4-H year, at the Broadus election room. The club discussed their last meeting and the recent steer weigh in. Shyla Madsen and Carter D’Amico reported on participating in the steer weigh in. The club then discussed future fundraising efforts, future grants, and a possible theme for the fair.   • Icy Roads Force Sports Cancellations

    Icy road conditions over the weekend forced the postponement of multiple sporting events over the weekend, including basketball games both Friday and Saturday and wrestling on Saturday. On Friday, St. Labre sent students home early due to freezing rain followed by snow, forcing the basketball games against Broadus to be cancelled. On Saturday, the games at Plevna were also postponed due to the black ice on the roads. The Plevna games have been rescheduled to Monday, February 6th.     Pamela Sue Hunderman (Williamson), age 64, of Broadus Montana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, January 19, 2023. She will be lovingly missed by her parents James and Barbara Williamson, brother Steve Williamson, husband David Hunderman, and children Stephanie (Bob) Anderson and Kristina (Mark Wenzel) Hunderman. New volunteers that attended were trained on the basics of structure fires. Clint started the training going over the fire triangle (oxygen, heat, & fuel), explaining how fire needs these elements to burn, and how removing any one of these elements can slow the process of fire allowing the fire to be controlled or extinguished.
