    Several years have elapsed since Broadus last hosted a high school wrestling event. That changed last Thursday, as Circle and Baker wrestlers converged on Broadus to wrestle in a mixer. The event came about when Broadus Wrestling Coach Frankie Schoonover conversed with the other town's coaches, realizing that all the teams were going to wrestle in Moorcroft, Wyoming on Friday.     Several cases are ongoing in Judge Michael Hayworth’s District Court. A case is currently pending against Catherine Breuer of Broadus on a meth charge. On July 12, 2018, a person matching Breuer’s description was seen in Broadus sitting in a fire truck which had been taken from the Belle Creek Fire Department without the department’s knowledge. A subsequent search warrant on the truck by the Powder River Sheriff’s Department turned up a vial which was confirmed by the state crime lab to be methamphetamine.   • Cigarette melts planter at Post Office

    A small fire caused by a lit cigarette melted a planter in front of the Post Office last Saturday. The flames were quickly extinguished by local fire and police officials and no major damage was done, but not before a good amount of fumes filled the Post Office with the not so lovely odor of burning plastic.   • Manor residents have new source of entertainment

    The Powder River Manor now has a new tool to help residents enjoy their time at the Manor – the omiVista mobii. The device is in essence an interactive projector, which shoots an image onto a surface (such as a table or the floor), and features a variety of stimulating activities and games. 300 activities come pre-loaded on the system; one example features a bunch of "chickens" parading around a digital barnyard.     Both Lockwood brothers scored on one bull out of four attempts at the PBR Unleash the Beast – Wrangler Long Live Cowboys Classic rodeo in Sacramento, California last weekend. Jess scored a 87.75 on his ride in round one, and Jake an 87.25 in round two, with each netting 10 world points in the event. Jess now sits in 3rd place overall in the world standings, winning $3575 on the weekend. Jake is 26th in world standings, winning $3175 in Sacramento.     Broadus hosted Terry last Friday for varsity basketball games, with the Hawk JV and Girls Varsity traveling to play in Plevna on Saturday. Boys The Hawks got out to a stagnant start against Terry, going down 0-4 early, before roaring back on three straight 3 pointers to lead 19-8 after the first quarter.   • Broadus Volunteer Fire Department 2019 Report

    In 2019 BVFD responded to 11 wildland fires in Powder River County. Out of the 11 fires only 125 acres burned in total. Four of the fires were started by farm equipment, hot bearings or iron sparking a rock. Between the landowners, neighbors and Broadus Fire these fires only burned about 14 acres total along with some haying equipment. A strong wind blew down a power line that started our largest fire of the year and it burned about 100 acres.     Not harmful to pets, but can affect poultry, game birds Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has had reports from citizens about an unusual number of dead Eurasian collared doves in yards and around neighborhoods this winter. FWP Region 7 submitted some of the dead birds for testing, and results have come back positive for Pigeon Paramyxovirus PPMV-1.
