11 was an interesting year. It didn’t seem like we had a lot of wildland fires, probably because none of them got very big since we didn’t have that much grass to burn. I believe the largest acreage fire was just across the county line in Custer County and went over 250 acres in a short amount of time, then the wind quit. Helena – The Montana Department of Revenue is reminding all livestock owners that they need to report their livestock to the department by March 1, 2019. Livestock owners can report the number of livestock they own as of February 1 online at ReportYour Livestock. mt.gov. Girls The Lady Hawks won a pair of games last week, first against Terry on Friday, then at home against Plevna, on Saturday. "We played well against Terry, and were really able to push the ball down the floor," Broadus Head Coach Kacey Stanley commented. The Hawk grapplers traveled to Moorcroft, Wyoming on Friday, for the Moorcroft Mixer. “It was our best tournament of the year so far,” Broadus Coach Frankie Schoonover commented. Anna Marie Jones, age 85, passed away at Powder River Manor in Broadus, MT on January 17th, 2019. Anna was born on January 25th, 1933 in Rocky Point, WY to Edwin and Gertie (Blankenship) Atkinson. She was the youngest of 8 children. Anna graduated from Hulett High School in 1950 and attended Black Hills Teacher's College receiving her degree and graduating in 1953. Harlan Leroy Jones, age 88, passed away January 20th, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Harlan was born September 19, 1930 in Anabel, Missouri to LeeRoy and Edith (Sumpter) Jones. Harlan graduated from Bevier High School in 1949. Harlan married Betty Tate on January 24th, 1950. Harlan and Betty had 3 children; Gary Lee, Randal Harlan, and Debra Lynn. JL Bloom passed away January 17, 2019 while recuperating from surgery. J L Bloom (JL) was born February 19, 1950 in Miles City, Montana to loving parents Bonnie Ann (O'Connell) Bloom and Lyle (Bucky) William Bloom. His parents worked for his mother's brother, Jiggs O'Connell, who owned and operated the Rendezvous (a popular nightclub) in the early 1950's, where JL spent his toddler days. Rocky Mountain head coach Laurie Kelly has announced the signing of student –athlete Kiarah Coulter to a Letter-of-Intent to become part of the Rocky Mountain Volleyball program for the 2019 season. Coulter, a 2019 graduate, is a 5'5" all-around player from Powder River High school. Her senior year she was selected first team all-state. She totaled over 300 kills and 200 digs her senior year. Thursday, January 26, 1989 Cat travels long distance to his home Cassius Clay, a black long-haired cat, belonged to Mildred Wolff, of Brockway. He was so named because he had six toes on his front feet, making them look like boxing gloves. He was about three and a half years old when Mildred passed away in December of 1987. Mildred’s daughter, Pat Smith, took Cassius to live with her on the ranch, about 45 miles southwest of Broadus. In March of 1988, he disappeared from the ranch.
