Several Broadus area residents and past Broadus High School Rodeo Club members were contestants at this prestigious rodeo. These contestants included, Radley Day and Taylor Williams in the Team Roping; Ashley Day in the WPRA Barrel Racing; Houston Brown in the Saddle Bronc Riding; and Haven Meged – Tie Down Roping. Steps for Charity, sponsored by Powder River Trails and MSU Extension Service, motivates people to walk and raises funds to support local charities.   • Sheriff's Department looking for suspicious person

    The Powder River County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call early last week of a suspicious person lurking near a home in Crane Acres. Apparently, the resident saw a person outside their home, called to the person, and the person took off on foot from residence before a positive ID could be made. Subsequent attempts to track the individual on the hard ground were to no avail, and no other reports have been made of the prowler since the initial sighting.     The Broadus School Board met Monday night to discuss the January agenda. Elementary PE & HS Driver’s Ed Teacher Jerry Coulter discussed his roles in the school. Jerry went over the elementary physical education program, noting that the vast majority of students in the elementary are performing at or above national fitness standards. He also discussed the driver’s ed program and changes that have been implemented over the years.     On Friday and Saturday, PBR Bullrider Jake Lockwood of Volborg wowed the rodeo crowd as he went a perfect 3 for 3 on bulls to win the gold buckle at the Pendelton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Reno, Nevada. Jake won 43.66 world points in Reno, as well as a $6,500 paycheck. The win also earned Jake an invite to the Unleash The Beast Event in Sacramento on January 24-26.     Zachary Marengo recently took the helm as Pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Broadus, replacing Pastor Kenny Beauchene who moved to the Glasgow area. Marengo is joined in Broadus by his wife, Victoria, as well as his young son Jericho and daughter, Jessa. Zach and Victoria were high school sweethearts while attending school in Grand Junction, Colorado.   • Basketball teams go on the road to Ekalaka, Melstone

    The Broadus basketball teams racked up the road miles over their last two games, traveling to Ekalaka on Thursday, and Melstone on Friday. Both Ekalaka and Melstone feature really tough teams – the Melstone Boys and Girls are both undefeated on the season, and Ekalaka’s Boys are second in the conference, with their Girls team is 4th in conference.
