    With 2019 in the books, we looked back through a year of newspapers to find the memorable moments from the year gone by. 2019 marked the 100 year anniversary of Powder River County becoming a Montana County, breaking away from Custer County in 1919.     Courtesy MT FWP The last big batch of test results from animals harvested during the general season and sampled for chronic wasting disease has turned up 16 new positives mostly in areas where the disease is already known to exist. For the first time, a deer tested positive from hunting district 705 in southeast Montana. (Ed: FWP indicates it was a whitetail buck shot along Powder River, south of Broadus.)     On December 19, 2019, the Broadus Elementary held their Christmas concert entitled A Musical Christmas Card. Once again, Mrs. Lisa Lynch, directed a delightful holiday concert! To kick of the show the 5th Grade Band performed a traditional rendition of Good King Wenceslas and Jolly Old St. Nicholas, an American Carol.     Girls The Lady Hawks recorded their first win of the season on Friday, December 20th as they hosted Plevna for the first Broadus home game. A large crowd was on hand for the opening game of the season, and the Lady Hawks didn't disappoint. The Lady Hawks went up early, leading 20-7 after the first quarter, and kept on the gas throughout the game to win 51-30.
