    The county compensation board met Monday at the courthouse, for a meeting to discuss the salaries of elected county officials. Present at the Board were the three County Commissioners, Darold Zimmer, Donna Giacometto, and Rod Schaffer, as well as County Attorney Jeff Noble, County Treasurer Pat Phillippi, Sheriff Allen Drane, County Clerk & Recorder Carole Richards, and the members of the Compensation Board representing the community, Mike Riley and Kathy Heidel.     The 4th of July Parade, put on the by the Chamber of Commerce, and led by Grand Marshal Charlie Barbero was a very well attended event this year, with Pete Wenzel and Julie Collins providing MC duties and music from atop Bella Si Salon.   • Several small fires start over the weekend

    Broadus VFD firefighters responded to several fires over the weekend, most of which were started by lightning from storms on Friday night. On Saturday, a 4.5 acre fire was doused on Butte Creek, in the southern end of Powder River County, on Russ Bryant’s property. Another fire, just across the Baking Powder Divide on Ernest Creek, was put out by responding BLM resources. The fire burned 0.5 acres.   • Fairly slow 4th of July Holiday for Sheriff's Office

    The Powder River County Sheriff’s Department had a fairly uneventful 4th of July week, according to Sheriff Allen Drane, Jr. Deputy Brenden Stevenson arrested an individual on a felony warrant out of Yellowstone County during a traffic stop, a Delio Mance. Mance was wanted for a felony charge of distribution of dangerous drugs. Yellowstone County came down and extradited him back to Billings. Mance is apparently a rap artist, going by the name “G-money”, with videos of his exploits on Facebook…complete with wads of cash being proudly display...

    Several questions have been brought to The Examiner’s attention regarding the new online version of the paper. The online version of the week’s paper will come out on Fridays, barring any technical issues. The current plan is to make PDFs of the print paper available to download online, so folks are able to check out all the advertisers, and read the paper in its natural form, on a screen instead of in hand.     After spending the fall hunting season of 2017 without a local game warden, Powder River County welcomes FWP Warden Kyle Queer to the area. Kyle initially moved to Broadus last winter, but was away for training through much of the winter and spring. Now, Kyle is ready to get to work, in the myriad tasks of which befall a game warden.
